OC Register Outsourcing Editing and Page Design to India

According to an AP article today, http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D91GQIK80.htm, the OC Register is outsourcing to India. Mr. John Fabris, a deputy editor at the Register, is quoted as saying:

“In a time of rapid change at newspapers, we are exploring many ways to work efficiently while maintaining quality and improving local coverage.”

Theresa Cisneros, Editor of the SVN, Canyon Life, Ladera Post and RSM News has not responded to a question regarding which community newspaper has been outsourced.

One response to “OC Register Outsourcing Editing and Page Design to India

  1. Yes, the Register (and the Times and all other papers) are having tough economic times. BUT outsourcing to another country to save a few bucks and thus cut down on jobs in the very communities that the Register portends to serve is a foolish move. A newspaper is a business, but a unique business that prospers in direct proportion to how its local readers and advertisers prosper. I’m going to outsource my firm’s ad budget away from The Register!
